Does anyone else find it amazing that Gov. Granholm hasn’t leaked any details about her Tuesday night State of the State address? We’ve heard statements from many of the Emergency Tax Increase Commission members urging her to be bold, visionary and courageous in keeping Michigan from teetering over the abyss. I certainly long for the good old 90’s when Governor Engler would produce so many ideas that each major news outlet could a get a leak every day in the week prior to the speech, except details of the next tax cut. Then, speculation would build about which tax would be next on the chopping block. Now, speculation is building about which form of “courage” the governor will choose — sales tax on services, increase in the flat rate, graduated income tax, pick your poison. I am not sure which one is more bold or more visionary or which one will push Michigan over the economic abyss faster. On the good news front, the governor will probably hint at the potential for Chrysler to put megabucks into their Jefferson North plant in Detroit. Then maybe she can announce Tony Dungy Day in Michigan and call it a night. I can’t wait.
